Medical legal software helps law firms manage cases that depend on medical evidence. These include clinical negligence and personal injury claims. Each case needs records, expert reports and firm deadlines. Therefore, teams often juggle many small tasks at once.
Good medical legal software keeps those tasks in one place. It also shows what is done and what is still outstanding. UK firms also use the term medico-legal. Both terms describe the same need: a case management system built around medical evidence.
SpineLegal is legal case management software for UK law firms. Its matter screens cover the steps that medical cases rely on. For example, you can track records, instruct experts and follow reports through quality assurance.
Medical legal work covers many tasks, from the first record request to the final invoice. Here is how SpineLegal supports each one.
Medical negligence matters rely on records and expert opinion. In SpineLegal, you can log each record holder and track requests. Then you can see when records reach the expert, so gaps show up early.
The matter overview shows the status, the limitation date and the progress of nomination, expert, appointment and report. For wider injury work, see our personal injury software page.
The Records section tracks record holders, including GP records. It counts records as requested, received, checked and sent to an expert. You can also send a request for outstanding records.
Keep instructed experts in one list and add a speciality when you need one. Meanwhile, the overview shows whether an expert is instructed and whether a nomination has been sent.
Appointment status appears on the matter overview, so you can see whether one is booked. The sidebar also flags matters where no appointment exists yet.
Upload documents to the matter and search them by name, folder or sender. In addition, you can manage legal documents with filters for file type and direction.
The header shows the limitation date for every matter. The Diary then holds deadlines, reminders, notes and calls. For more detail, read about legal calendar management.
The Billing section shows what is due on a matter. As a result, finance and fee earners work from the same figure. Our law firm billing software page explains more.
Every matter in SpineLegal has the same twelve sections in its side menu. This is how each one works in the medical legal software today.
See the reference, type, status, claimant, instructing solicitor and case handler together. The Progress panel adds nomination, instructed expert, fee, appointment, report and sales outstanding.
Upload documents and search by name, folder or sender. Filter by PDF, Word, email or images. You can also filter by incoming, outgoing, sent or draft.
Case Chase holds a case header with a chase status. It tracks dates such as the conflict check, expert instructed and report received. It also records MRI and other costs with a grand total.
Switch between all activity, deadlines, reminders, notes and calls. Search the diary, then filter by date or status. You can book a deadline or add a reminder from the same screen.
Complete the patient or claimant details, general details, solicitor, litigation and form of authority tabs. A counter shows how far setup has progressed.
Add record holders and track records as requested, received, checked and sent to an expert. Use the request outstanding button to chase what is missing.
View all experts on the matter and add a speciality when needed. The overview also shows the instructed expert and the nomination status.
Follow appointment status for each matter. The sidebar badge shows when none is booked, and the overview repeats that status for quick checks.
Follow the medical report from awaited to received. The sidebar flags QA fails, while the overview shows when quality assurance is still to do.
Record the other parties linked to a matter. A counter shows progress through the third party records.
See the amount due on the matter from the sidebar. The overview also shows sales outstanding, so everyone sees the same figure.
Review the activity recorded on a matter. The header button also shows a running count of activity items.
These descriptions follow the SpineLegal matter screens as they appear today. Section names, counters and badges may vary with your firm’s set-up.
