Here is Copilot's ceiling for legal practice: it can see a contract in SharePoint and a thread in Outlook, but it has no concept of the matter they belong to — the client, the stage, the deadline that expires Thursday, the compliance check still outstanding. Licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot operates within your tenant under your commercial terms, respects existing permissions, and is not used to train foundation models — a stronger position than consumer chatbots. The free consumer Copilot should be treated like any public tool: no client-identifiable data.
